Dental anxiety is a real problem in the world today, which is why our Duncan Dental Studio team offers dental sedation in Portland, Texas. Dental sedation is a great product that will help you finally relax while you’re in the hands of the dentist. With the help of dental sedatives, your dental fears will be washed away and you will feel comfortable and safe at our office.
Generally, there are three different types of sedatives that are commonly used in the world today, and those three sedatives are:
-Oral sedation: Oral sedation comes in the form of a pill. You will take it orally about an hour before your dental appointment. By the time you get to our office, you will feel groggy and dazed, which is why it’s probably best to have a ride to and from your appointment. If you are given a higher dose, you might fall asleep during the treatment. If this happens, we will wake you with a gentle shake when the treatment is completed.
-Nitrous oxide sedation: Nitrous oxide is a light, flavored gas that is inhaled through the nose. The effects will make you feel tingly and light headed, but they will wear off once your treatment is over. When you first come into the office, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose and will ask you to inhale deeply. After a few minutes, the gas will enter your system and will make you feel relaxed and comfortable. When the treatment is finished, your dentist will remove the mask and you will feel normal once again.
-IV sedation: IV sedation is a strong sedative that is typically used when you need extensive dental treatment, like oral surgery. This drug will enter your veins through an IV and will send you into a deep sleep. Once your treatment is completed, you will wake up and you won’t remember anything about your appointment.
Now, even though these three sedatives are the most commonly used, it doesn’t mean we offer all of them at our office. So, if you would like to know which sedative Dr. James A. Duncan offers, please feel free to call (361) 643-3030 and talk to our friendly dental team. We are happy to give you the information you need!
